Our Story

A Million Knots (AMK) was started in 2012 by Mirai Patel and Danielle Clark as fun summer project making knotted bracelets that they sold to the local community. As their profits grew, they decided to turn the money into a tool to help others, and their vision turned towards helping girls through education.

In October 2013, AMK was officially founded as a Service Learning group at Pacific Ridge School. Since then, our mission has been to support local and international endeavors that work towards providing educational and empowerment opportunities for underprivileged girls in India.

Currently, our work funds three programs. First off, the A Million Knots School, a school near Alwar, Rajasthan where 34 young girls receive free education. Secondly, we donate to D.A.I.S.A.N., a program aiming to raise awareness about sexual and reproductive health and help survivors of sexual or gender based violence. Lastly, we donate to Ability Bhutan, an organization currently building a children's library in Bhutan. We also aim to educate our communities on the stigmas around women's education in India, and the crucial role education is in everyone's lives.

In order for the A Million Knots School to run, we require a total of $2000.00 a year. We partner with an organization called iiMPACT that allows us to directly fund the school. Fundraising is the financial force behind AMK, and our group does this throughout the school year through activities that include selling t-shirts, henna, handcrafted bracelets, and ethnic food during major school-sponsored festivals, as well as during lunch hours.

A Night in Naugaon is an opportunity to raise money to help fund the school in Alwar, and to spread awareness about the struggle for girl's education in India whilst bringing together people all over San Diego.
